Every year, on Anant chaturdashi, we witness a day full of grand processions. The huge idols of Ganesha are carried in trucks with hundreds of people dancing around to bid bappa a happy farewell for the year. As we all say “pudhchya varshi lavkar yaa” reminding him to come back sooner the next year, I’m usually never able to control my tears, seeing the idols being immersed in the ponds or lakes. At home, we have the idol for one and a half days, but the spirit of the festival is felt for 10 whole days.(sometimes 11, like this year, as per the calendar). I know there are some atheists in this world who wouldn’t understand why some people like me get so emotional. It’s something that cannot be explained, you have to feel it. You have to feel the presence of the almighty, you have to feel that kind of attachment with him. This year many of us are sad since the celebrations weren’t as grand as last year’s, but deep in our hearts we all know, everything will be fine. Let’s not ask when and trust his plan. We all don't like saying goodbyes, do we? This goodbye that we’re saying isn’t really a goodbye because he will always reside in our hearts, even after visarjan. He will always be there with us, sitting in the pooja-ghar in our homes, walking behind us as we walk on the streets, protecting us from all evil at all times...
